interplay_2027 invites artists working at the intersection of performance and technology to submit proposals for live online performances. We are seeking innovative works that experiment with and expand the possibilities of digital performance, including but not limited to the incorporation of dance/theatre, sound/music and various types of cross-disciplinary/hybrid performance art.
For this edition of interplay_, we are particularly interested in supporting projects created and led by women, femmes, and gender-diverse artists, in alignment with our shared values and partnership with Matriarchs Uprising Festival.
This open call prioritizes:
Application Deadline: Oct 8, 2026, 11:59pm PT
Presentation Dates: Feb 10–12, 2027
Performance Format: Shared-bill, live-streamed performances (15–45 min in length), either on Zoom or another online platform of your suggestion. Projects may include a combination of live and pre-recorded elements, but must focus on the live components to be considered.
This call is open to artists of all abilities, at any career stage, from all disciplines, based in so-called Canada and internationally. As part of our commitment to creating space for voices that have historically been underrepresented in performance and technology, and in alignment with our partnership with Matriarchs Uprising Festival, we particularly welcome projects led by women, femmes, and gender-diverse artists.
Yukon-based Indigenous artists may also be eligible for a separate special co-commission opportunity presented by interplay_2027 x Matriarchs Uprising Festival. See Yukon Indigenous Artist Co-Commission for full information and eligibility.
Live online performance refers to artistic works that are intentionally created or adapted for real-time presentation in digital spaces. These works exist at the intersection of performance, technology, virtual presence and are grounded in liveness: the ephemeral, co-present exchange between artist(s) and audience through an online medium.
Additionally, selected artists will be required to document their use of technology for Chimerik’s Virtual Live Art database. This includes sharing a technical pipeline breakdown, a 5-minute edited highlight video and responding to key questions about the development process. Please use this as a reference for what we expect.
